Despite weather hazards, the rescue operation in the Gayari Sector continues at five priority points identified with the help of SPD team employed along with plant equipment and Army Search and Rescue Teams. According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), a 450-metre-long access track had been developed on the avalanche debris to access the priority points. Work on another access track has also been started to widen the search perimeter.
Mainly, plant equipment is employed at two points and the work is in progress at a rapid pace on both points. Work on other three points was mainly being done with the help of infantry troops, who are resorting to manual digging with some assistance from plant equipment wherever required. A bulldozer has been employed to restore the water channel, which has been blocked after the avalanche. So far, two exists are available with 20 and 15 cusecs of discharge. Efforts are under way to enhance the same with the help of plant equipment.
