Prime Minister's disqualification sought: LHC seeks DAG's help in deciding maintainability of petition

The Lahore High Court Chief Justice on Wednesday sought assistance of a deputy attorney general(DAG) to decide maintainability of a petition seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on the basis of alleged loan default and getting the same written off by his wife Fozia Gilani.
The petitioner, Tariq Ahmad, submitted that wife of the prime minister had obtained billions of rupees loan from Zarai Taraqiati Bank (ZTBL) and National Bank of Pakistan. He said when she failed to pay back the loan the banks approached a banking court and got a decree against Ms Gilani.
Later, he said, Ms Gilani got the loan and written off using political influence of her husband. Petitioner under provisions of Article 63, if a parliamentarian or his spouse or any of his dependents defaulted in payment, the parliamentarian stood disqualified. The CJ Sheikh Azmat Saeed adjourned hearing April 26 and asked a deputy attorney general to argue on the maintainability of the petition.
