Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) expressing its reservations on wheat procurement policy announced by the Punjab government has demanded to make it more transparent and efficient. The Board urged the government to end political intervention in the coming procurement drive and small growers should be given gunny bags on priority basis.
This demand was raised at a meeting of the Lahore division wing of the Kisan Board Pakistan here on Tuesday. KBP Central President, Sardar Zafar Hussein Khan chaired the meeting, which was also attended by the KBP Central Punjab President, Chaudhry Noor Elahi Tatla.
The meeting was also attended by the district and tehsil wings chiefs of the Board, said KBP Central Information Secretary, Haji Muhammad Ramzan. The meeting through another resolution also urged the government to compel sugar millers to immediately make payments to the sugarcane growers due against the mills. Participants of the meeting also discussed the raise in electricity and diesel prices and its negative impact on agricultural sector and the growers. It urged the government to give a special subsidy to the growers to offset the loss they might incur due to increase in the power and petroleum products prices.
