No red warrant issued against Musharraf

The Interpol has not yet issued red warrant against former president Pervez Musharraf in the murder case of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. "The Federal Investigation Agency has sent a request along with a perpetual arrest warrant issued by Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) Rawalpindi and other related documents to General Secretariat of Interpol for issuance of red warrant against Musharraf to bring him back to Pakistan to face charges of his alleged involvement in murder of Ms Benazir Bhutto," a senior official of FIA, who requested anonymity, told Business Recorder.
He said that Interpol issues arrest warrant after complete review of a request, including perpetual arrest warrant issued by ATC, evidence and other related documents. "The issuance of arrest warrant against Musharraf is still under process as Interpol has not yet completed the review of FIA request," he said. When contacted, Chaudhry Zulfiqar, the FIA prosecutor said that he has not been intimated regarding the issuance of red warrant against Musharraf.
"Issuance of red warrant against any person is not a major task but its implementation is very important," he said. He said that the country where the accused is residing will decide the modalities of his repatriation and different countries repatriate accused on a reciprocal basis.
Major General Rashid Qureshi (Retd), spokesman of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), confirmed that the Interpol had not issued a red warrant against Musharraf so far. "Interpol has said that the evidence and other related documents sent by the government of Pakistan to Interpol are insufficient to issue red warrant against Musharraf," he added. The ATC in Rawalpindi had issued arrest warrant for Pervez Musharraf after he failed to appear in the court to respond to questions about the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.
