Examining circumstantial evidence: police hushed up DHA security guard's murder case: DG FIA

Director-General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Javed Iqbal admitted on Monday before the Supreme Court that Islamabad police had hushed up the murder case of a DHA security guard, adding that Inspector-General of the Capital police did not take sufficient steps to trace the real culprits.
A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, asked the DG FIA to examine the circumstantial evidence and complete findings relating to the case by May 7. During the hearing, the DG FIA said he needed more time for completing the investigation. Terming the case a classic example of Islamabad police's highhandedness, slackness, lethargy and criminal negligence, he said he would need more time to initiate criminal proceedings against police officers who had previously hushed up the case.
The Chief Justice said that they were aware that Rs 26 million had been paid to the widow of Fayyaz Ahmed, Shamroza Bibi, as financial compensation. "We also know who had paid this huge compensation," Justice Tariq Pervaiz remarked. FIA's Director, Legal, Haji Azam informed the bench that in pursuance of the apex court's February 27 order, FIA was investigating the case but it was still unable to arrive at a logical conclusion.
The court questioned that why had the investigating agency not examined the circumstantial evidence. The court had observed that a trial court judge of Islamabad misunderstood the case and gave a controversial verdict. "Don't rely on this judgement," chief justice had asked Sardar Ishaq, the lawyer of another two accused in the case.
