One minute silence was observed for the victims of target killings in Karachi and for those soldiers and civilians trapped under an avalanche in Siachen Glacier.
Speaking on the occasion, she said media is her extended family and people in media have always supported her struggle for democracy whether she was in the government or not. This support will continue, she added.
Sharmila said it was not an official dinner and she has hosted this dinner in her personal capacity.
Those who attended the dinner included Sindh Minister Rafique Engineer, Special Assistant to CM Waqar Mehdi, Managing Director PBC Murtaza Solangi, Secretary Sindh Information Qazi Shahid Pervez, President All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) Sarmad Ali, General Secretary Masood Hamid, former president APNS Hameed Haroon, Qazi Aslam, Asif Zuberi, Ilyas Shakir, Mukhtar Aqil, Tahir Najmi, Jabbar Khatak, KPC president Tahir Hassan Khan, President KUJ, G M Jamali.
Hameed Haroon said it was a unique day as members of the associations of owners, editors and journalists were together in a function under one roof.
Sarmad Ali said that APNS will serve as a bridge between newspapers owners and the government.
Rafique Engineer said that owners of newspapers and journalists have always waged a struggle against martial laws and dictators and fought for the freedom of press.
