Second International Judicial Conference begins on April 13

The three-day Second International Judicial Conference would be opened by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on April 13 where delegates from developed and developing world, including Australia, Afghanistan, France, India, the Maldives, South Africa, Turkey, US and the UK would share ideas to improve the administration of justice.
During eight thematic sessions, delegates will discuss topics such as innovative role of judiciary in promotion of tolerance, culture, terrorism and money laundering, role of judiciary in good governance, alternate dispute resolution and international arbitration. They are also expected to discuss judicial education, parental child abduction and transnational jurisdiction, environmental law and public interest litigation and gender bias and issues of judicial empathy.
Prominent among the delegates are; Justice ZM Yacoob Acting Deputy Chief Justice South Africa, Dr Livingston Armytage, Director of the Centre of Judicial Studies Australia, Judge Delissa A Ridgway of the US Court of International Trade, Hannah Tuempel, Manager of the International Centre for ADR Paris, Professor Dr Martin W Lau, School of Oriental and African Studies University of London, UK, Sir Peter Singer, Family Dispute Resolution Facilitator, England, Anne-Marie Hutchinson OBE, Dawson Cornwell, UK, Justice Altamas Kabir Senior Puisne Judge Supreme Court of India, Chief Justice of the Maldives Ahmed Faiz, and Judge Morrison C England Jr United States District Court USA.
Members of legal the fraternity from all over the country have also been invited, including top legal officers of all provinces, presidents and general secretaries of all high courts and the Supreme Court Bar Association and district bars. Judicial officers from district judiciary have also been invited to attend the moot. Flags of all the participant states would also be hoisted by a police contingent in the conference auditorium of the Supreme Court. A theme song 'Justice for all' will be presented by students of a private school in the inaugural session.
During the concluding session, a book on 'Counter-Terrorism International Law and Practices', edited by Ana Maria Salinas De Frias Katja Lh Samuel and Nigel D White would also be launched. "As many as 1,900 persons were invited to participate the Conference from all over the country from which 1,000 have confirmed their presence in the event so far", the spokesperson for the Justice and Law Commission informed. The first International Judicial Conference was hosted by Pakistan during 2006 under the aegis of the National Judicial Policy Making Committee.
