Rates move both ways on grain market

Upward trend was witnessed on the wholesale grain market on Thursday in process of hectic trading as many buyers were in the arena to cover short and long-term requirements, dealers said. On the grams side, grams Australia No 1 picked up Rs 100 to Rs 7100-7400, grams Australia dal No 1 followed same pattern, gaining same amount to Rs 8500-8800, grams 50x50 rose by Rs 200 to Rs 8000-8300.
Yellow peas Canada picked up the same figure at Rs 4200-4400, yellow peas dal Canada gained the same amount to Rs 4700-4900, yellow peas was up by Rs 200 to Rs 4100-4300, yellow peas dal gained the same amount to Rs 4600-4800, about the upward march in the grams rates, some dealers were of the view that food products are continuously on the rise, but, presently the fact is that month of Ramazan is not so far, many cautious retailers are trying to store the commodity items to make profits as much as they can.
Most of the items on the seed sector went up mainly because of short supply position, dealers said. Rapeseed Nawabshah low type gained Rs 125 to Rs 2375 and fine quality was higher by Rs 100 to Rs 2400, rapeseeds Mirpurlane low type rose by Rs 150 to Rs 2400 and good quality was up by Rs 125 to Rs 2425, cakes gained Rs 20 to Rs 860-870. Til inferior quality was higher by Rs 150 to Rs 3400 and best type was up by Rs 50 to 3700, Castorseed Lasbela plus Rs 50 to Rs 2000 and castorseed Sindh gained same amount to Rs 1800, cottonseed oilcakes with bag Sindh low type shed Rs 200 to Rs 400 and good type came down after shedding Rs 50 to Rs 700, they said.
On the cereal counter makai prices went up by Rs 50 to Rs 2675-2700, barley Sindh and Mardan, however, lost Rs 350 to Rs 3500, wheat old new Bardan shed Rs 25 to Rs 2725-2775, wheat new,new Bardan gained Rs 10 to Rs 2610 and wheat old Bardan did not show any change at Rs 2650. Guwar Sindh and Punjab gained Rs 100 to Rs 310000-320000, Khandsari low type maintained overnight level at Rs 5500 while the best type was lower by Rs 500 to Rs 6000, other items held the overnight levels in process of trading, they said. On the rice sector Irri-6 Sindh low type lost Rs 150 to Rs 3500 and fine quality was down by Rs 125 to Rs 3600 and Basmati No 386 new picked up Rs 300 to Rs 5700-5800 on improved demand, other types maintained overnight levels, they said.
