Foreign investors boosted their South Korean bond holdings to a record high in March, data showed on Wednesday, as a stronger won ramped up interest in assets from the country. Foreigners upped their exposure to Korean bonds by 1.8 trillion won ($1.6 billion), the biggest amount in eight months, hitting a record-high of 88.5 trillion won at the end of March, the country's top financial regulator said.
Investors from China resumed purchasing Korean debt in March, raising their holdings by a net 154.3 billion won, after putting a buying spree on hold in February on what analysts said was porfolio adjustment. Foreigners also kept buying South Korea-listed stocks for a third-consecutive month, according to the data from the Financial Supervisory Service. That brought holdings to 400.7 trillion won's worth at the end of March, topping 400 trillion won for the first time since May last year.
