Published February 4, 2018 Updated February 4, 2018 01:23pm

CENTURION: India needed nine balls after lunch to complete a crushing nine-wicket win over South Africa in the second one-day international at SuperSport Park on Sunday.

After bowling out South Africa for 118, India were 117 for one when umpires Aleem Dar and Adrian Holdstock took the players off the field for lunch. India had been 93 for one after 15 overs at the scheduled break. In terms of the playing conditions, the umpires extended play by four overs or 15 minutes.

To the astonishment of players, spectators and commentators, the umpires stuck to the letter of the regulations, ordering a 40-minute break. Most of what had been a capacity crowd left during the interval

South Africa 118 in 32.2 overs (Y. Chahal 5-22, Kuldeep Yadav 3-20).

India 119-1 in 20.3 overs (S. Dhawan 52 not out, V. Kohli 46 not out).
