District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Lahore, Noor-ul-Amin Mengal on Sunday paid surprise visits to Shadman, Wahdat Road, Gulshan-e-Ravi and Islampura Sunday Bazaars and announced to exempt all Sunday bazaars of Lahore from parking fee. DCO Lahore expressed his displeasure over the poor arrangements and sale of rotten fruits and vegetables in bazaars.
DCO Lahore directed the administration and market committees to pay full attention on cleanliness and not allow any body to sell old fruits and vegetables. He also warned the Sunday bazaars administration and market committees to show full interest for arranging bazaars and prices of items should be less than the open market. He also presented a cash award of best stall-holder at Shadman bazaar. DCO has taken serious notice of selling rotten vegetables and fruits in bazaars and issued warning to concerned officers to take immediate measures to improve the situation.
DCO Lahore himself discarded the rotten vegetables and fruits and warned stall-holders not to sell such vegetables and fruits. While taking notice of consumers complaints, DCO Lahore ordered to provide more space for consumers in the bazaars. He also directed to make zoning of bazaars so that people could get easy access to their relevant items. On a complaint of a citizen he also directed to include civil society in the administration of Sunday bazaars so that civil society could pay its vital role for improvement of bazaars. He said that he would not allow to sale rotten vegetables and fruits at any cost in Sunday bazaars if it happens then the administration of bazaars and market committees would be responsible. He said that he would not compromise on quality of food items.
District Co-ordination Officer during the day also paid surprise visit to Government Said Mitha Hospital at walled city and took notice of poor cleanliness situation at hospital and directed the hospital administration to pay full attention on cleanliness.
