Withdrawal of hike in fuel prices: LCCI gives 72 hours' ultimatum to government

The second biggest Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) of the country has given a 72-hour notice to the government to withdraw the recent massive hike in the oil prices.
Talking to Business Recorder, President LCCI Irfan Qaiser Sheikh, said here Sunday evening the government has increased the fuel price by 9 percent in one go which is not less than a huge destructive drone attack on the fragile economy of the country.
This decision would lead to uncontrollable social and political unrest and unemployment in the country, he added.
Sheikh said LCCI is calling a meeting of the 22 Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Punjab during next two days to chalk out their strategy and action plan to force the government to withdraw the latest price hike.
Sheikh declined to further elaborate the industrialists and traders possible course of action and said it would be decided in the crucial meeting of the Punjab's CCIs which are already offended by the Centre's discriminatory supply of energy (gas and electricity) to Punjab.
The Punjab government led by Shahbaz Sharif is already going out of its way to support province-wide violent protests and agitation staged by the industrialists and theirworkers against electricity and gas outages.
