Two teams from Pakistan comprising over 50 prominent wrestlers are expected to participate in three day mega Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Wrestling event being organised at indoor PAP stadium in Jalandhar Cantonment from April 13, said Kartar Singh, organising secretary.
He said more than 300 wrestlers of international repute of both men and women categories from 15 countries including four teams from Russia will be taking part in the tournament. Other teams include England, Canada, Georgia, Germany, Korea, Japan, Scotland, Australia Iran, Nigeria and Wales. Rs 30 lakh cash prize event will begin with Akhara on April 12, day ahead of commencement of event which will be performed by noted Punjabi singer Gurdas Mann at Khatkar Kalan, the native place of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
Torch of event will be carried from Khatkar Kalan by prominent sportspersons led by film star Dharmendra, cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, Olympian Balbir Singh senior, cricketer Kapil Dev, Harbhajan Singh on same day. Winner of tournament will be awarded cash prize of Rs 101,001, first runner get Rs 51,000, second runner up awarded cash prize of Rs 25 000 apart from gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
