The Lahore High Court on Thursday said that shortage of funds could not be taken as an excuse for enforcement of Article 25-A of the constitution which ensures provision of free education to children up to 16 years of age. The LHC was hearing a petition seeking uniform education policy and enforcement of provision of free education in public and private sectors.
The court sought a reply from Punjab Education Secretary and adjourned the hearing to April 11. The LHC CJ remarked that the country had a very low literacy rate and it was the responsibility of the government to provide free education to children. The petition was filed by Judicial Activism Panel through its Chairman Muhammad Azhar Siddique.
