Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has expressed concern over increasing the extra high tension (EHT) precious cables theft incidents from the power transmission network. Last week in rampage, the disruptive elements opening gun fire upon a KESC security guard in Gharo, killing one guard and injuring two others.
KESC said that there had been an increase in the extra high tension wire theft cases and these incidents have constantly been brought to the notice of the police and Home Department from time to time and urging the protection of these sensitive installations.
KESC said, that the need of the hour is to apprehend the suspects involved in the EHT theft and the dealers who buy the stolen copper from such thieves. The law enforcers could manage to crack down of this illegal trade, the sudden and prolonged unscheduled power outages in Karachi could be reduced considerably.
KESC pointed out that the non-stop cable theft had been causing huge financial losses to the power utility plus increasing the burden of expensive equipment. The increasing menace, on March 26, a loop of Maripur Truck stand was cut off where two spans of wire was found broken and one span wire was stolen, KESC said.-PR
