Those were the days when Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, a picture of self-righteousness, champion of rule of law, driving force in the vanguard of the lawyers' movement for the restoration of the deposed judiciary, self-proclaimed upholder and guardian of the constitution was regarded as an impeccable crusader against the evil forces that flaunted the rule of law and defied the constitution.
Barrister Ahsan was, indeed, a darling of the press, civil society and a most respected citizen. A leading lawyer, committed to doing right in the polluted arena of legal manipulation.
How sad that this once upright man changed sides overnight, from right to wrong, by becoming a "defender" of prime minister Gilani. Barrister Ahsan is said to have now assumed the role as the saviour of money launderers and the corrupt-to-the-core elements in the party of his allegiance.
