The security van of Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) Chief Afaq Ahmed on Saturday came under attack at Landhi, leaving a cop dead while two others injured. Police said although the party leaders claimed that unknown armed men sprayed one of the security vehicles escorting Afaq's car with bullet near Landhi 89 when he was heading towards Hyderabad to attend a wedding ceremony.
The van was targeted when it went to gasoline station for refuelling. The firing left 3 persons - Munawar and two cops namely Habibullah and Faisal Taimur injured. SHO Landhi Mazhar Iqbal Awan said all three injured persons were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where police constable Faisal succumbed to his injuries. Replying to a question, he dispelled the impression that the vehicle came under attack when it was escorting Afaq's convoy, saying that the victims at the time of the incident were going to refuel it before leaving for Hyderabad.
Moreover, he said these policemen, who were deployed on the security of Afaq Ahmed, were posted at the Saudabad Headquarters. Later, Afaq Ahmed cancelled all his engagements and visited JPMC to see the injured persons. Talking to media at the health facility, he urged the Supreme Court to take notice of Karachi violence. He said the lives and property of common-men were now at the mercy of culprits. Later, vice chairman MQM-H Shamshad Ghori at a press conference at Karachi Press Club (KPC) condemned the said incident, saying that they are being victimised constantly and if the authorities did not take any action to avert such untoward incidents, they would be compelled to take extreme measures.
