The Enterprise & Investment Promotion Department of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has taken measures to bring the holding of weekly bachat bazaars in the city under the rules and regulations so that the recovery of revenue of the department could improve and the people could be saved for any inconvenience due to the holding of illegal bachat bazaars.
Addressing a departmental meeting, Senior Director E&IP Shoaib Waqar referred to the clear instructions from Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed for bringing improvement in the performance of the department and strict enforcement of respective rules and regulations.
He directed all the organizers of bachat bazaars to contact with the department without delay along with the documents or they would have to face legal action under the rules and regulations. Business Recorder has learnt that presently, there are more than 130 bachat bazaars routinely organised at different venues in city. The regularly reported numbers of Bachat bazaars in city are around 90 of which 34 are organised at the land falling within the precincts of the KMC while the rest are on the land of various cantonment boards.
The public parks and playgrounds and streets are being routinely encroached under the pretext of bachat bazaar by a mafia of profiteers. On the other hand the private profiteers mafia of bachat bazaars sell a stall to the vendors for Rs 60,000 to Rs 100,000 for a year. A new comer could hardly get a place for the second time. He has to negotiate with the organizers for a room on regular basis. It is the organizer who decides the rates according to the nature of products, which the new comer would bring for sale.
