Official of Irrigation Department: Sindh Assembly defers voting on a privilege motion
The Sindh Assembly on Tuesday deferred voting on a privilege motion, which the Sindh Minister for Alternative Energy, Muhammad Shaharyar Khan Mahar had introduced in the house against a high official of Sindh Irrigation Department after feeling breach of his privilege being the provincial lawmaker.
With Speaker Nisar Khuhro in chair, the minister who preferred to consider him as only a member of the provincial assembly brought a motion against the chief engineer Sukkur Barrage of irrigation department for not paying heeds to his complaints to solve the public issue.
He in the motion said that the public was facing severe problems because of a collapsed bridge on Shikarpur road and he had approached the official to solve the problem. He said the chief engineer never attended his telephone calls after the first one. He felt the official had breached his privilege.
He said he had exhausted his efforts even discussing the matter with Chief Minister Sindh and finally found the assembly the only platform to raise the issue of the public concern. However, on the assurances of Sindh Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ayaz Soomro he agreed to deferred voting on his motion till next sitting.
