Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and its allies have discussed pros and cons of the report of Parliamentary Committee on National Security, which was presented to the joint-sitting on Tuesday. They discussed the report in a meeting held in the Presidency on Tuesday with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in the chair.
The sources said that meeting discussed re-opening of Nato supply routes, seeking of unconditional apology from the US on Nato air strikes in Pakistan Mohmand Agency, drafting new flying rules for areas contiguous to the border and imposing taxes and charges on all goods imported for Nato forces across the border.
The meeting was attended by Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, Asfandyar Wali Khan, Senator Afrasiab Khattak, Dr Farooq Sattar, Haider Abbas Rizvi, Senator Israrullah Zehri, Munir Khan Orakzai, Spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar, Engr Shaukat Ullah, Khuda Bux Rajar, Syed Khursheed Shah, and Syed Muzzafar Hussain Shah.
Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Secretary General M Salman Faruqui, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, DG ISI Lieutenant-General Zaheerul Islam, Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani and Defence Secretary Nargis Sethi were also present during the meeting.
According to the sources, they also discussed the issues including in the minimum time greater market access of Pakistan's exports to the US, EU countries markets, strengthening security along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, reviewing present foreign policy, dialogue process with India and other neighbouring and Muslim countries etc.
President's Spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said the meeting was in continuation of the earlier meetings held on March 14 and 17, to discuss security and foreign policy related issues. The President and the Prime Minister also had a meeting with the coalition partners.
