Two police cops including a sub-inspector were killed and three other wounded in a remote-control explosion near their vehicle on Ring Road Square on Kohat Road here on Tuesday evening. According to police sources, the police mobile was on routine patrolling on Road when it was targeted in a road side planted explosive. The explosion resulted in complete destruction of the police van.
The victims have been identified as Sub-Inspector Hazrat Ali, who was Additional Station House Officer (SHO) in Bhana Mari Police Station while the constable was Hussein Khan. After the incident, rescue teams and Edhi ambulances rushed toward the site and shifted the injured to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar where they were provided emergency medical treatment.
The security forces cordoned off the area while bomb disposal squad collected evidences from the site. It was part of the series of the attacks on police started with City Police Station last month that claimed the life of SHO Manawar Khan and last week killing of Superintendent of Police (SP) Rural, Abdul Kalam Khan in a suicide attack at Pishtakhara Square on the same Ring Road.
