The industrial workers and citizens irked by 16 to 18 hours of power outages staged protest demonstrations at various locations across the industrial city. A major protest was held at Sumandri road and Pull Korian, which resulted in traffic jams on almost all important roads.
Youths backed by powerloom workers of their areas, joined the protest demonstration and blocked the roads, burned tyres and chanted slogans against the Wapda, FESCO and the federal government. The angry powerloom workers gathered on the Sumandri Road, Pull Korian, and other link Roada and blocked traffic on these thoroughfares. Other areas where protests were staged included Khurrianwala, Canal Road, and Jhang Road industrial area. The protesters strongly criticised the federal government for its failure in providing electricity to the citizens and industry.
The labour leaders announced to launch protests against the 16-18 hours of power and gas loadshedding. The business community leaders feared an anarchy-like situation in the country if appropriate measures were not taken to overcome prolonged power cuts.
In a press statement, Chaudhry Salamat Ali, Chief Co-ordinator, and former Chairman, Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PHMA) North Zone expressed grave concern over prolonged loadshedding of electricity and gas in Punjab. President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Muzzamal Sultan and other leaders also expressed grave concern prolonged power cuts, saying it was only negligence of the government.
