With a view to prepare youth for better understanding of economic affairs, Lahore Stock Exchange (LSE) began first-ever nationwide investors' awareness campaign. The first programme of the series was held here at the University of the Punjab where LSE's officials interacted with the students.
"Campus Outreach Programme" under the broader Financial Literacy Initiative has been launched by the LSE in collaboration with South Asian Federation of Exchange (SAFE). The LSE under this initiative will be conducting on-campus educational sessions, followed by practical exposure of students to the financial products/services through visits/interactions with financial institutions and encouraging participation in the financial system through games and internship programme.
At the event organised at the PU Department of Business Education, Salman Ali Bokhari, Head of Investor Relations at LSE explained to the participants the broad features of Pakistan's economic and financial system, characteristics of different financial markets, regulatory framework, investment products, financial services and opportunities available to investors in Pakistan and roles and responsibilities being performed by various financial institutions.
He also spoke on various operational matters of the Exchanges including listings, trading, and investor protection. Chairman of the Department Dr Shaukat Ali Raza applauded the efforts of both LSE & SAFE towards increasing financial literacy in Pakistan.
He said that such programme in addition to enhancing knowledge also provided opportunities to the students to interact with industry professionals. He expressed hope that those would continue in the future and its scope would be enhanced. LSE MD Aftab Ahmed Chaudhry said that providing adequate skills to the youngsters to enable them to play an active part in financial and economic development of country were becoming a global phenomenon.
