Schneider Electric, the global specialist in Energy Management and its Foundation contribute generously towards the uplift of flood affected areas across Pakistan, by supporting a professional training programme with The Hunar Foundation (THF). This agreement was signed through a special event organised in Karachi.
The Hunar Foundation is a vocational training centre that imparts vocational training. Around 96 students from the first two batches of THF have qualified from the Trade Testing Board (Sindh) in five technical trades including Electrical Installation, Mechanical Fitting & Plant Maintenance, Fabrication Welding & Pipework, Refrigeration & Air-conditioning Mechanic and Plumbing. A large number of students have also qualified from City & Guilds (UK). They are the first batch of students in Pakistan who have successfully obtained an international certification in vocational training from the first THF centre located in Karachi.
The Hunar Foundation is now setting up a training center in Rashidabad, Tando Allahyar - an area in Sindh widely affected by recent floods. Contribution from Schneider Electric will be utilised for the building and the equipment of the technical training centre dedicated to training energy management and other trades. The initiative will help the people there to acquire skills to explore fresh opportunities for earning a respectable livelihood for their families, and become valuable citizens of their community once again.

The activity is a part of Schneider Electric's sustainable business vision for Pakistan in 2012. This vast social initiative includes the rehabilitation of flood victims, who are suffering due to the floods that caused massive destruction in numerous regions of Pakistan, and left millions of people without food and shelter. The Schneider Electric Foundation is sharing the burden with the poor families, who are still trying to survive the catastrophe that occurred more than a year ago. In the rescue phase the Foundation had collaborated with Aide Medicale Internationale (AMI) to provide treatment to flood affected people from water borne diseases.
