Keenjhar Lake: tourism department gets Rs 20 million to purchase motorboats

Sindh finance department has released Rs 20 million to the tourism department to purchase motorboats for Keenjhar Lake, it is learnt on Tuesday. Sources inside the finance department told this scribe that the amount was released after Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah approved the summary of tourism department, seeking an amount of Rs 20 million to purchase motorboats for Keenjhar Lake.
It is worth mentioning here that Keenjhar is the country's biggest lake of sweet water, situated in District Thatta and visited by thousands of picnickers in summer. Sources said the tourism department had moved a summary to the Chief Minister in mid 2011, mentioning lack of facilities at the province's key picnic point which is frequently visited by tourists from all over Sindh especially from Karachi and Hyderabad.
The summary had requested approval of Rs 20 million to purchase motorboats to facilitate the visitors as well as for use in an emergency situation. The amount would be transferred in the official account of Sindh Tourism Development Corporation (STDC), a subsidiary of the tourism department, sources said. Managing Director STDC Manzoor Ahmed Kanasro informed that tenders would be issued soon to purchase three motorboats.
