Fire incidents claim two lives

At least two persons including a minor boy lost their lives while over half a dozen sustained burnt injures in two separate fire incidents at various parts of the metropolis here on Tuesday. According to officials in Fire department, the first incident was reported early Tuesday at Zumrat colony located in Block 22 of F B Industrial Area.
Chief fire-fighter Ehtesham said at around 4:30 am, unknown caller informed the department that fire engulfed at Zumrat Colony located in Block 22 of F B Industrial Area. Reacting on the information, two fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the spot to extinguish the fire, he added.
He said that some 100 huts were completely gutted in the fire before they reached to the spot hence they called more tenders for backup. Later two more fire tenders were sent to the place. Chief Fire-fighter further said the fire, which was brought under control within two hours, claimed a life of minor namely Hassan (2 years) son of Muhammad Riyaz and injured an elder man Jumah, 60. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained while he was of the view that it broke out because of dust storm that hit the city on Monday.
Yet another fire that broke out at Universal Silk Corporation located in sector 12-B of New Karachi Industrial Area claimed one more life and injured five others. The deceased was identified as Muhammad Imran, 22, while the injured persons were Aqil, Mubeen Ahmad, Khursheed, Rashid, Yaseen and a fire-fighter Zubair Ansari. All victims were the workers of the factory.
Chief fire-fighter Ehtesham said, the department was informed at around 11:30 through telephone call, and added that it was third degree fire that destroyed the whole factory. He said the fire-fighters faced immense difficulties to extinguish the fire, due to absence of emergency water tank in the area, leaving one person killed and six other injured. Moreover, he said the cause of fire was yet to be ascertained while the fire was brought under control after hectic efforts of over five hours.
