Nine devotees were killed and nearly 60 others were injured when a bus fell into a ravine at Haveli BaharShah (Shorkot) in district Jhang, police said on Tuesday. Initial investigation said the accident occurred due to over-speeding. Several injured said the bus plunged into a ravine while taking a turn at Darbar Mai Baap for homage in Haveli Bahadar Shah.
Police said bus heading to Sakhi Sarwar (Dera Ghazi Khan district) was full of pilgrims from Jaranwala (Faisalabad). The driver lost the control of the bus and it fell into ravine. Rescue 1122 reached immediately and transferred critically injured to District Hospital Jhang. Other wounded devotees were shifted to Rural Health Centre Haveli Bahar Shah. Several injured were stated to be critical, doctors said.
DPO Jhang Rao Abdul Karim said, "This mishap occurred due to reckless driving which caused the death of eight persons on the spot and more than 12 are in critical condition. We had instituted a case against the bus driver, however no arrest was made."
Medical Superintendent of DHQ Hospital Jhang Dr Mumtaz Ahmed Siyal confirmed the death of nine devotees as one succumbed to injuries in hospital, adding that some seriously injured passengers were shifted to Allied Hospital of Faisalabad. Rescue 1122 volunteer Jehanzeb also confirmed the death of nine persons.
