Railways launches drive against black marketing of tickets

To curb the menace of travelling without ticket in the trains, excess charging and black marketing of tickets, Pakistan Railways administration has decided to launch special comprehensive campaign against culprits from March 21, Assistant General Manager (AGM) Traffic Ahmad Ali Rizvi told Business Recorder here on Tuesday.
He said, in this regard, officers from Railways Headquarters and the Divisional offices had been nominated who would make surprise visits to control this menace. All Divisional Superintendent (DSs) including Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Multan, Sukkur, Karachi and Quetta had been directed to check each and every passenger and charge fine to ticket less passengers, he added. The nominated officers were also directed to check booking and reservation offices and various station platforms to ensure that no excess charging or black marketing of the tickets were being done, he maintained.
DSs are directed to take immediate and appropriate action on the spot to rectify the irregularities noticed in the railway revenue collection, while no train at any station in any division be left unchecked by the appointed and nominated officers. The AGM traffic said that during the campaign, Luggage Van and Dining Cars of every train should also be checked to ensure that they were not over loaded and quality food was served to the passengers.
He said all the concerned DSs were further directed to depute the senior officers at important railway stations of the respective division to keep a watch against black marketing of tickets and excess charges by the coolies etc during their orderly duties. He said all concerned DSs were informed that results of the campaign by name and designation along with irregularities noticed and action taken should be sent to Chief Commercial Manager (CCM) on weekly basis for onward submission to the General Manager Operation.
They have been directed that results should be brief and to the point, highlighting the targets and achievements. When asked, the AGM Traffic said if any Divisional Superintendent failed to comply with the direction he would have to face disciplinary action in the form of suspension or transfer.
