Lyari to be under the spotlight

Law Enforce-ment Agencies (LEAs) are all set to conduct massive search operation against the extortionists and other unscrupulous elements of Lyari. According to police sources, the authorities have given go-ahead signal to the police and other security agencies to involve over 700 more personnel to root out criminals, gangsters and extortionists from Lyari.
They said the police and paramilitary forces had finalised its strategy in this regard and the operation in Lyari was being expected to be launched, shortly. When contacted, police officials, who did not want to be named said they had been instructed by Federal Interior Minister, Sindh Chief Minister and IGP Sindh to conduct search operation against wrongdoers of Lyari. They said the law enforcers were already deployed at Lyari to avoid escape of any criminals before the search, and added that instructions in this regard were communicated after the target killing of Katchi Rabita Committee (KRC) leader Rasheed Katchi last Sunday.
Following his killing, parts of Lyari including Bihar Colony, Agra Taj Colony, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Road, Jumma Baloch Road, Kalri, New Kalri, Juna Masjid Road, Nayaabad, Khadda Market and Ghausia Road remained tensed where all commercial and social activities were suspended on Monday.
The funeral prayers of KRC leader and his private gunman were offered after Zohr prayers at Kalri ground. Later, Rasheed Katchi was laid to rest in Mewa Shah Graveyard, while Zubair was buried at Mawatch Goth Graveyard. After the funeral prayers, the members of Katchi Rabita Committee (KRC) staged a protest demonstration and demanded to the authorities to take stern action against the associates of defunct Peoples Amn Committee (PAC).
The protesters alleged the members of defunct PAC for their involvement in the assassination of KRC leader. A large number of people including MPA Saleem Hangoro and Provincial Minister Rafiq Engineer attended the funeral prayers. Meanwhile, KRC leader Hussain Katchi had given a three-day ultimatum to the authorities to nab the culprits, saying the KRC would take all matters in its control, if the authorities failed to arrest the culprits till the Soyem of their leader.
