With a view to raising awareness about breast cancer among female students, Pink Ribbon Pakistan is observing "Pink Day" in over 18 universities and colleges of Lahore on Wednesday, (tomorrow). In this regard, the inaugural ceremony will be held at Government College University at 10:30 am.
Pink Ribbon Pakistan is observing this day as a part of its activities for "Pink Ribbon Youth Year 2012." The Higher Education Commission (HEC) had already joined hands with Pink Ribbon Pakistan to create awareness about breast cancer and help early detection among women. National Co-ordinator, Pink Ribbon Omer Aftab said: "Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer in all of Asia accounting to 40,000 deaths every year, while the prevalence of breast cancer is at the highest 38 percent among all cancer." He said around one in 9 Pakistani women will suffer from breast cancer at some point in their lives, however, with early diagnosis, a patient's chance of surviving breast cancer is higher than 90 percent.
