The rupee gained modestly against dollar, however, fell versus euro on the money market on Monday, dealers said.
INTERBANK MARKET: The rupee rose by five paisa in terms of dollar for buying at 90.70 and picked up four paisa for selling at 90.72, they said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee maintained its overnight levels in relation to dollar for buying and selling at 91.00 and 91.20, they said.
The rupee dropped by 70 paisa in terms of euro for buying and selling at Rs 119.40 and 120.40, they said.
In the first Asian session yen stayed on the defensive with euro reaching a fresh five-month high against the Japanese currency, while dollar nursed losses following a setback late last week. The euro rose as high as 110.15 yen at one point on trading platform EBS, its highest level since late October.
The yuan was little changed versus the dollar after the People's Bank of China set the midpoint more than 100 pips stronger, mirroring a recent drop in the dollar index in global markets. Spot yuan closed at 6.3233 against dollar, little changed form Friday's close of 6.3227. Before trading began, the PBOC set the yuan's midpoint at 6.3082, 118 pips stronger than 6.3200 previously.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee showed strength and was appreciated by 15-paisa on buying side and 20-paisa on selling side in relation to the greenback in the local currency market on Monday. According to the currency dealers, the dollar was opened on a depressed note and kept on declining during the day's trading. At the end of trading, the dollar was closed lower at Rs 91.05 and Rs 91.30 as its buying and selling rate against the last Saturday closing of Rs 91.25 and Rs 91.40, respectively.
However, the rupee-pound sterling parity remained unchanged amid low trading activity in the open market. The pound was traded at its previous closing of Rs 143.35 and Rs 143.80 on buying and selling counters, respectively, the dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Monday.
The dollar opened at Rs 91 (buying) and Rs Rs 91.20 (selling) against same previous rate. It did not observe any further change in the second session and closed at Rs 91 (buying) and Rs 91.20 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 142 (buying) and Rs 142.50 (selling) against same previous rate. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 142 (buying) and Rs 142.50 (selling).
