Salala post incident: no apology sought: Prime Minister

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza at his residence here Sunday said that Pakistan had not sought any apology from the United States on the Salala post incident but was seeking new directions in relations with the super power on key issues.
Talking to journalists, Gilani said the Parliament would debate ties with America on Monday with input from the key stakeholders before the new rules of engagement and proposals were thrashed out.
On the issue of relations with the US, the prime minister said that they wanted full support of the Parliament on the issue, which also includes Pakistan's ties with Nato and Isaf, as these two organisations comprised a total of 48 countries, he pointed out.
Gilani emphasised that parliament was now the policymaking forum that debates and deliberate on Pakistan's relations with the rest of the world. Gilani continuing with his assertions said that Pakistan was a mature and responsible nuclear power country that desired good and friendly ties with the rest of the world.
Speaking On the issue of grant of most favoured nation status to India, the prime minister said that Pakistan had shown no discrimination and there were a number of countries whom it had extended similar status.
Dilating on the domestic issues and politics, he reiterated that the case of giving immunity to President Zardari regarding Swiss bank question rested with the Parliament.
He averred that Constitution of the country granted immunity to the office of the President, which is a part and parcel of the Parliament, therefore the supreme legislative body remained the best forum to deal with issues relating to the Presidential immunity, he added.
Asked whether he was contemplating resigning from the office, in case he is held in contempt by the Supreme Court for his failure to write a letter to the Swiss authorities, the prime minister responded by saying that this matter would not still go away as the new person would have to deal with it as well.
In response to another query about key Pakistani security agency, he said that ISI was an important organisation of the country, whose status should not be made controversial, he emphasised.
He said they had to protect the institution and take them forward adding that he has yet to meet the new ISI chief.
On Balochistan, he said the main issue facing the mineral rich south western province was law and order.
Gilani said that he would hold discussion with the Balochistan leadership on the progress of Aghaz-i-Haqooq-e-Balochistan, including progress and implementations of resolutions passed in this context in the Balochistan Assembly, he pointed.
The prime minister on the occasion stressed upon bringing law and order situation under control in the country and taking the political leadership on-board before dealing with various major issues in a comprehensive manner and correcting the current perception. Gilani noted that the 19th Amendment was passed by the Parliament to facilitate appointment of judges of the superior judiciary in accordance with the views of the Supreme Court. Prime minister on the occasion stated that their party was committed to the cause of people of Pakistan and would deliver their best for them, he added.
