Hearts condemned Hibernian to yet more Edinburgh derby despair with a 2-0 Scottish Premier League home victory at Tynecastle on Sunday. Craig Beattie gave Hearts a 28th minute lead after making the most of a superb cross-field ball from Ian Black before Suso Santana's stoppage-time strike sealed victory.
This result meant Hibs were still searching for their first Edinburgh derby win in three years and left them just four points ahead of basement club Dunfermline at the bottom of the table.
Hearts remain sixth but moved to within one point of St Johnstone and Dundee United in the chase for Europa League football.
The Jambos took the lead when Black's 50-yard diagonal ball released former Celtic striker Beattie, who shot through the legs of Hibs keeper Graham Stack.
Beattie then volleyed over the bar shortly before half-time.
And Beattie showed his defensive worth when clearing one of two Matt Doherty headers - both within seconds of each other - off the line early in the second half.
Hibs had further chances to equalise, with Roy O'Donovan's header saved by the legs of Jamie MacDonald.
And the visitors' failure to take their chances was compounded when Santana, on as a late substitute, received the ball on halfway, beat two defenders and then curled a shot past Stack.
