US sent detainees to banned Afghan prisons

A report by two rights groups says the US sent some detainees to Afghan prisons where torture was found despite an announced suspension of such transfers. The report by the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission and the New York-based Open Society Institute was released Saturday.
It documents 11 cases in which detainees said they had been captured by US personnel, then transferred to an Afghan facility in Kandahar. Nato and the US military earlier said they stopped sending detainees there in July because of evidence prisoners were being tortured. The report says it is unclear if these prisoners were transferred by the military or by the Central Intelligence Agency or other US personnel.
