Some people are born with a gift of nature regarding certain talents. Those fortunate among them are brought up in surroundings that help in promoting their talent and polishing their skills. More fortunate get opportunity to demonstrate their accomplishment through words, lines or brush and live performance (music, acting and dance).
Huma Baig is one who born in a family that not only promoted literature but enriched it through artistic contributions. She informs in her introduction that she started writing poetry in her college days and her poem "Baitul Maqdas Teri Hurmat Ko Salam" was broadcast in Radio Pakistan's programme "Bazm-e-Talaba" in 1981. This process continued off and on. But 2005 earthquake jolted her, since then the stream is flowing on.
What I liked most is she has presented her poetry without any recommendation, accolades, to judge it on merit. In our social structure, norms and traditional a female poet, writer and artist/artiste has to face many hurdles, particularly in marred life. Taking care of the family affairs and above all rearing children. It is only the inner self, intuition and inspiration that compell her to keep the artist within her alive and kicking. Huma's collection of poetry stands witness to it.
As a social being she is concerned with life around her and the issues that stimulate thought and feelings are translated in to words. She has full control over language and knows how to convert them into beautiful expressions you may call it lucid, direct, simple and that carries you along.
