A novel modus-operandi for heroin smuggling was unearthed on Thursday as three drug smugglers including a volunteer of Edhi Foundation were arrested over the charge of transporting 200kgs of fine quality heroin through Edhi ambulance service from Hub to Karachi.
According to SHO Zafar Iqbal, three persons including Edhi ambulance driver Habib Khan and eight drums of illegal substance were taken into custody on the information of Edhi officials of Tower Centre on February 29. He said the officials of Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) were initially called to ascertain either this illegal substance was explosive or not. Later, the BDS officials after thorough inspection confirmed that the said substance was not capable of exploding anything but might be used for making narcotics.
Therefore, then such illegal substance was sent to PCSIR, Karachi and Islamabad labs for further examination. Moreover, SHO Zafar said the report from PCSIR Karachi was received and it has been confirmed that the said substance was a fine quality of heroin in raw form.
Replying to a question, he said the accused Habib during initial course of investigation revealed that he took the said substance from Moach Goth and wanted to dispatch the same in Karachi. SHO did not want to disclose the exact location with the aim to nab the whole racket. A case 93/12 was registered against the accused persons under section 69-C of Narcotics Act.
Meanwhile, Anwar Kazmi, a spokesman of Edhi Foundation confirmed the said incident, saying that the recovery was made on the information of the Foundation.
