Kissan Board Pakistan (KBP) President Sardar Zafar Hussain has expressed concern over the non-payment of dues by the sugar mills owners and demanded the government to intervene in this regard. Talking to delegations of sugarcane growers here on Thursday, he said that under cane act, the sugar mills owners were bound to make payments to the sugarcane growers but they did not make payments worth billion of rupees to the poor farmers for many months.
He alleged that mills owners had violated the cane act by making less payments to the growers against the announced price adding mill owners had also made illegal deductions besides closure of their mills before time. He further alleged that mill owners had reduced the sugarcane price of Rs 100 per maund than that of last year. He said that crushing season starts from October 15 and conclude by April 15 adding the mill owners have started the crushing in the end of November to exploit the farmers. The KBP urged the government to hold an inquiry into this matter to ensure full payments to the growers.
