Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has expressed grave concern over the amendments to Islamiat books and decided to launch a province-wide campaign for restoration of the old course. Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, JI Provincial Naib Amir Merajuddin Khan said that the provincial government had removed three Surah of the Holy Quran and 25 Hadiths from the course.
He said that JI would hold a big public meeting on March 21 at Batkhela to be addressed by JI's Central Amir Syed Munawar Hassan. He said that the main issue of the province was now changes in the course of Islamiat. The changes, he alleged was an attempt to stop the people from waging holy war (jihad). He said that the removal of the three significant Surah of the Quran from the course was a conspiracy to change minds of the people from Jihad (holy war).
Flanked by JI provincial spokesman Israrullah Advocate, Merajuddin said that Pakistan had come into existence on the name of Islam and the course had been prepared by patriotic people. He alleged that the changes had been made at the behest of the US to introduce secular education system in the province. He said that the education wing of JI would meet on Mar 17 to decide next line of action against the amendments. In the public meetings, he said awareness would be created among the people to take to the streets and hold protest rallies in parts of the province for restoration of the old course.
