The Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL), as a result of its leakage survey campaign, has succeeded in reducing the un-accounted for gas losses (UFG) from 12.4 percent in June 2011 to 11.07 percent in December 2011 while the company would also continue its efforts in this regard till June 2012.
SNGPL General Manager Sales, Rehan Nawaz stated this while speaking at the corporate briefing programme at the Lahore Stock Exchange while Senior General Manager Audit, Sagheer-ul-Hassan, LSE Managing Director, Aftab Ahmad Chaudhry and other senior members were also present on the occasion.
He said the company is using modern equipment to detect underground leakage in its campaign. He said that line losses have been increased in the history due to conversion of distribution of gas from bulk consumers to domestic consumers. In his detailed presentation, Sagheer-ul-Hassan said the SNGPL is serving over four million domestic, commercial and industrial consumers with transmission pipelines of 7,556 kilometres and distribution mains and service lines of 82,988 kilometres while number of consumers is expected to register an increase of 278,400 in financial year 2011-2012.
Responding to investors on shortage in supply of gas, Rehan Nawaz said that during each winter season, the domestic sector consumption increases many folds resulting in a large gap between demand and supply. Since there is a nominal increase in supply, the gap is met through curtailment of gas supply to various sectors. During the current winter months, gas supply has been reduced by 125-150 MMCFD whereas the consumption has been increased by 200 MMCFD due to which domestic sector is also facing low pressure conditions, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Aftab Ahmad Chaudhry said that in the current scenario where the liquidity is drying up, high profile companies like SNGPL need to establish investor relations department to meet the informational needs of investors. More information sharing translates good liquidity in stock of the company, he added.
