Senators of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) said on Sunday that intelligence agencies of the country, ISI, Intelligence Bureau, and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as well as foreign forces have been involved in political manouvering.
Addressing a press conference Senator Professor Khurshid Ahmed and Professor Muhammad Ibrahim, who retired from the Senate on Sunday after completing their six-year term, said that political manoeuvring by agencies and institution, armed forces as well as foreign interference should be ended now.
Professor Khurshid said that the role of independent judiciary and vibrant media remain very critical during the last few years in exposing nefarious designs and mindset of politicians and Waheeda Shah's case was the latest example in this regard.
In reply to a question about taking money from the ISI in 90s, Khurshid rejected that Jamaat-e-Islami ever sought help from agencies or any body. The Senator said that his party was in favour of direct election of Senate but on equal proportionate to all the provinces so as to reflect their representation in the upper House. He said that after the approval of 18th Constitutional Amendment, Prime Minister and Cabinet members are not only responsible to the National Assembly but also to the upper House of the Senate.
Replying to another question, he said that JI senators as well as some others were not satisfied on various matter in the 18th Constitutional Amendment because they wanted a uniform education system, a drug regulation standard across the country but deplored that they were unable to convince the remaining members of tittee headed by Senator Raza Rabbani on Constitutional Reforms.

Khurshid said that he was retiring as Senator Today (Sunday) after representing his party and people for about 21 years in the Senate and contributing as much as possible in strengthening the role of the Parliament for country's development. He said that the JI contribution in the legislation as well as raising the issues of public importance through question-hour, call attention notices and resolution was evident before every one.
He said as many as 1000 questions and 400 adjournment motions; call attention notices and privilege motions were submitted by the three senators of JI in the Senate during the last four years on issues of public importance ranging from terrorism.
