The Executive Board of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) in its meeting to be held on March 15 is likely to decide the fate of national hockey team coach Michel van den Heuvel. Sources said on Friday that Michel Van Den Huevel has refused to attend a training camp organised on February 29, for the London Olympic probable in protest over some issues with the PHF.
This act of Heuvel was in violation of clause seven of the contract, he signed with the PHF, the sources added. Sources claimed that Michel Van Den was not happy with the PHF's selectors who announced the probable for the London Olympics without taking him into confidence. Huevel did not want some players in the team.
Michel Van was appointed coach of national hockey team for the London Olympics to be held from July 27 to Aug 12. The Executive Board of PHF will also take a policy decision on the fate of players who have opted to play in the World Series Hockey in India, which is not recognised by International Hockey Federation. Some senior hockey players, including Rehan Butt, Shakeel Abbasi, Imran Warsi and Waseem Ahmed are participating in this event in India.
Sources said that Michel van den wants Pakistan hockey team to play more and more international matches before the London Olympics. Critics of the game are of the view that Pakistan may face uncertain situation in their preparations for the Olympic Games, if Michel Van Den Huevel is fired.
