Speakers at a book launching ceremony have called for empowering the country's middle class by properly utilising the tools of education and communication to steer the country out of prevailing crises. Speakers at the launching ceremony of a book "Social Change" by Mahmood Mirza, here at Alhamra Hall, maintained that the country was facing crisis like situation and the problems had increased manifold.
The ceremony, organised by Pakistan Institute for Social Change (PISoD), was presided over by former Justice Nasira Javed Iqbal, while PTI senior leader Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, PML-N Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, renowned journalist Mujeebur Rehman Shami, Human Rights activist Hussain Naqi, Professor Dr Rasool Bakhsh Raees, historian Dr Mubarak Ali, Akhuwat Executive Director Dr Amjad Saqib, BNU professor Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, PISoD Chairman Professor Dr Mujahid Mansoori, PISod General Secretary Shabbir Sarwar spoke on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, PTI leader Makhdoom Javed Hashmi said he was staunch supporter of "change" only through vote. Those who acquired knowledge from English men caused much harm to the nation as compared to foreign invaders, he added. He said, be it PML-N, PPP, JUI-F or any other party, he was a strong opponent of monopoly of few people because he wanted furtherance of real democratic system in the country.
Hashmi said he had 40 years relations with the writer Mahmood Mirza. He said, "Mahmood Mirza has presented his philosophy in the form of book while I am still on the journey to get real in the country, a change where no party or personality has absolute power or monopoly." PML-N leader Senator Pervaiz Rasheed said on the occasion that people were stick to so-called religious beliefs that even military establishments and elected democratic governments had to take support of religious personalities to form their governments.
