The dollar hit a fresh 7-1/2-month high against the yen on Friday as stop-loss orders were triggered, traders said. The dollar hit a high of 80.66 yen, its highest since July 11, and last traded at 80.62, up 0.9 percent on the day, according to Reuters data.
The euro hit a fresh 3-1/2-month high versus the yen at 108.32 yen and last traded at 108.24, up 1.3 percent on the day. The yen has recently been weighed down by monetary easing by the Bank of Japan, the country's shrinking current account surplus, interest rate differentials with the US and rising crude oil prices.
