Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad inaugurated a double-storey underground car parking and the recently restored Baradari Park here on Friday. Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed, Municipal Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan, Director Technical Services Altaf G Memon, EDO Transport Ateeq Baig, and senior journalist Ardeshir Cowasjee were present on the occasion.
Later, talking to media persons, the Sindh Governor said that the problem of vehicle parking around the Polo Ground had been largely solved with the opening of Baradari Parking, which he added would also ensure smooth flow of traffic. About restoration of the Baradari Park, Ibad said that the park would prove to be a wonderful recreational area for the Karachiites.
He further said that work to restore three other parks in Karachi would begin in two to three weeks, which included Polo Ground Park, Jahangir Park and Orangi Town Park. A plan had been outlined for reconstruction of Jahangir Park in Saddar with an improved design, he added. He said that a car parking facility near Empress Market would also be constructed soon and the existing Saddar Car Parking Plaza would be made operational by declaring various roads of Saddar as no parking zones.
Briefing about the project, the Administrator KMC said that the parking area had the capacity of accommodating 600 vehicles at a time, where all required facilities including 16 CCTV cameras, 12 fixed cameras, security guards and elevator had been provided. He said that the old Baradari Park had also been restored to its original shape over the car parking area. He informed that the project had been given to a local firm, which solely sponsored the project, on a 30-year lease.
