Pakistan has received $1.1 billion as foreign assistance from July 2011 to February 2012 while the Asian Development Bank (ADB) was the largest donor by releasing $470 million to the country during this period. Data available with this scribe shows that the World Bank remains the second largest assistance provider to Pakistan by releasing $236.8 million during the first eight months of the current fiscal year 2011-12.
USA is the third largest donor according to the list as it has released $111 million from July 2011 to-date. Well-informed sources told this scribe that USA has disbursed $650 million under Kerry Lugar Bill during the last two years while projects of more than one billion dollars have been agreed under this Bill between USA and Pakistan.
The data shows that during the first eight months of 2011-12, Germany released $22.2 million to Pakistan, Australia disbursed $15.2 million to Pakistan, Belgium $6.8 million, Canada $17.2 million and China has released $0.4 million to the country. The United Kingdom has released $36.9 million to Pakistan from July 2011 to till date.
An amount of $1.3 million has been disbursed by Denmark, $12.4 million by European Union (EU), 0.5 million dollars by France, $35.3 million by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and an amount of $0.6 million has been disbursed by the International Private Donors to Pakistan.
The data reveals that from July 2011 to February 2012, Ireland disbursed $3 million to Pakistan, Italy $1.5 million, Japan $5.2 million, Luxembourg $0.8 million and Netherlands released $6.7 million. New Zealand has released 0.3 million dollars, Norway $2.3 million, Saudi Arabia $1 million, Spain $3 million, Sweden $7.7 million, and the United Nations (UN) disbursed $24.4 million to Pakistan.
