Pakistan Muslim League-N activists are saddened over departure of Hashmi from the party. Hashmi's exit from N-League has raised alarm in the PML-N circles, therefore, the party should devise a strategy to avoid further departures from the party, a PML-N activist said.
Sources said the PTI leadership was in touch with over a dozen sitting legislators of N-League and consultations were underway According to them, Hashmi had some differences with the party leadership and he also expressed strong reservations over foreign assets of political leaders. "Hashmi wanted more forceful role on the part of PML-N at this critical juncture and also asked for tendering en bloc resignations but when he failed to convince the party leadership he decided to quit the party."
Sources said that the PML-N leaders Khawaja Asif, Khawaja Saad Rafique and Pervaiz Malik tried to persuade Hashmi not to join PTI but they failed to convince him. After Hashmi's announcement, President PML-N Mian Nawaz Sharif said: "I respect Hashmi and pray for him." Talking to the media, Nawaz said he spent good time with Hashmi and they were good friends when Hashmi was in jail and he was in exile.
Nawaz said the PML-N was the only party, which had taken stand against the Establishment. "We would keep on taking principle stand in a bid to change present state of affairs," he said, adding that the PML-N wanted to steer the country out of prevailing crises."
PML-N Deputy Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal said Hashmi had rendered sacrifices for the party while PML-N leader Chaudhry Akhter Rasool said Hashmi would be remembered for his efforts he made for the cause of democracy. Hashmi's departure from the PML-N was a matter of serious concern, he added.
