Ukraine exported about 1.4 million tonnes of grain, mostly maize, between December 1 and December 23, analyst ProAgro said on Friday, citing data from Ukrainian sea ports. The consultancy said the volume included 1.03 million tonnes of maize, 324,000 tonnes of wheat and 39,000 tonnes of barley.
Ukraine exported maize mostly to Egypt (165,534 tonnes), Spain (174,000 tonnes) and Iran (149,900 tonnes). It also sold maize to Japan, Portugal, Singapore, Libya, Tunisia and other countries. Ukrainian wheat went to Spain (74,000 tonnes), Egypt (60,000 tonnes), Israel, Tunisia and other states, and its barley went to Turkey.
ProAgro said an additional 800,000 tonnes of grain, including 600,000 tonnes of maize and 150,000 tonnes of wheat, would be exported in the near future. Ukraine plans to harvest 55 million tonnes of grain in 2011 and export 20-23 million tonnes in the 2011/12 season (July-June).
Ukrainian Farm Minister Mykola Prysyazhnyuk told Reuters this week that grain exports reached about 8.3 million tonnes in the period from July to December 20. He also said exports would not exceed 1.9 million tonnes this month because markets were dormant at the moment.
