Advisory to farmers

Published Updated

The met office on Friday advised the farmers to irrigate the wheat crop as per need. "Normally wheat crop is irrigated after 20-25 days of sowing in the agricultural plains of Pakistan," the advisory said. "Due to persistent dry weather, farmers of the irrigated areas are advised to irrigate the crop as per requirement," it added.
Water requirement of wheat crop varies during different growth or phonological stages, it said adding that "highest amount of water is needed during flowering stage followed by grain formation stages and then vegetative stages." It advised farmers of canal and self irrigated (tube wells) areas to follow the order of water requirement for wheat crop for proper utilisation of available water resources to get maximum production. Timely operation against weeds is of particular importance to save moisture and other soil nutrients. Farmers are advised to use recommended weedicides to remove weeds from the fields.
