National Accountability Bureau (NAB) summoned the administration of Bank of Pakistan (BOP) to appear before the bureau with the record containing recoveries. The meeting of Executive Board of NAB, which held here on Wednesday with former Adm Fasih Bukhari in the chair, took some important decisions to activate the regulators to perform their own functions effectively rather than they refer cases to NAB.
The board expressed its concern that BoP loan recovery case against fake collaterals was slow and no serious efforts were made to recover the loan. The meeting took a serious view of the fact that BoP had done nothing on its part to recover loan from Three Star Hosiery, Active Apparel International, Dandot Cement, Mohammad Rasheed s/o Mohd Amin and his two sons, besides its failure to recover money from M/s City Developers and other persons.
The meeting was informed that money allocated for the installation of windmills and tube wells for 17 Districts of Balochistan was misappropriated and nothing existed on the ground. However, after inquiry initiated by NAB, the Contractor started their installations and put them in operation. The NAB Balochistan would submit separate reports after it monitors progress in all the districts.
In case of Jammu and Kashmir State property, NAB decided to refer the case to Ministry of KANA for review of nominal rents paid by present tenants so as to bring them at par with market rates to avoid the loss caused to the state. While authorising the inquiry in case of rechecking of applicant's papers/examination results against former Chairman BISE D. I. Khan, the meeting emphasised the need to focus on moral aspect rather than financial.
