Hundreds of sugarcane farmers took out a protest procession and blocked many main and link roads of the industrial city as a mark of protest against the brutal murder of a villager over the dispute of sugarcane prices.
Chak Jhumra Police have arrested Amjum Shafique, General Manager and nine security guards of Hunza Sugar Mills, however, Sardar Zafar Hussain Khan, President Pakistan Kissan Board strongly demanded immediate arrest of sugar mill owners, who are responsible for price dispute and looting the growers.
When farmers were protesting against sugar mills administration for deducting 40 percent from Fixed Cane price, security guards opened fire on the order of General Manager Anjum Shafique. Resultantly, one Shahid Anwar was died on the spot, while two other injured. Just after this incident, farmers blocked the main and link roads of the Chak Jhumra and Faisalabad. They burnt tiers and strongly condemned the murder of a villager Shahid Anwar.
Carrying dead body, hundreds of villagers marched toward Faisalabad and blocked the Sargodha Road and Allied Hospital Road for three hours by placing dead body in the middle of the road. Talking to newsmen, Sardar Zafar Hussain Khan, President Pakistan Kissan Board said that sugar mills are looting the farmers and not paying actual price to the farmers. He expressed grave concern over this murder and demanded that the owners of the mills should also be arrested in this case, otherwise farmers will launch protestation against the looter mafia and government.
